My Poppa Buddie is with the Lord now.
My grandfather, Poppa Buddie, died yesterday. I am still having a hard time wrapping my mind around that truth.
He and my grandmother, Momma Milly, were in a car wreck. Poppa Buddie died on the scene and Momma Milly was life flighted to the hospital. She is in stable condition, but has damage to her T2 and T9 vertebrae, her sternum and her knee, along with various cuts and bruising. She has a very long recovery ahead of her.
Momma Milly and Poppa Buddie were married 64 years.
I have cried for Momma Milly’s loss of a life mate.
I have cried for my own mom’s loss of a Daddy.
I have cried for my loss of a grandfather.
It hurts all around and it just feels surreal, like it couldn’t have possibly happened the way it did.
The last time we spoke I hugged Poppa Buddie goodbye, kissed him on his forehead and said, “Good bye. I love you, you mean old man.” He smiled at me and said, “Who me?” It was part of a running joke with us. Sometimes he would say that it takes one to know one, or another sarcastic retort, but it was all said in love.
He wasn’t an overly demonstrative, cuddly type grandfather.
He was “Poppa Buddie”.
There was no other like him.
I loved him and I know he loved me.
Poppa Buddie would have been 85 on January 6th.
Together he and Momma Milly had 7 kids, 11 grandkids and (so far) 8 great-grandkids.
An amazing legacy.
Please pray for Momma Milly’s healing.
Please pray for the hearts of our family.
We rest in our salvation through Jesus Christ and know that Poppa Buddie now has perfect healing and he is face to face with his Heavenly Father.
