Those of us with kids, or a penchant for arcades and game centers in our youth, are familiar with the Whac-A-Mole game. I’m an internet Whac-A-Mole, popping up in one URL after disappearing from another. I thought about likening myself to a Whack-a-Kitty, but decided I wasn’t cute or furry enough.

For the past several years, I tracked this domain with high hopes to secure it for myself. I mean, who doesn’t want their actual name as a domain? You? Well, that’s because you’re YOU, but I’m ME, and I most certainly wanted mine.

Initially the domain was owned by a real estate agent, but after a while I noticed she wasn’t contributing to it any longer. Shortly after the woman let it go, the domain fell into the hands of one of those money-hungry people who make their living buying/selling domain names.* The two of us haggled back and forth for over a year before we came to an agreement on the value of MY NAME.

Then, for the next year the domain name sat, as a domain one purchases with no idea of what should be done with it is apt to do.

A few weeks ago I made the specific career decision to back away from web design and focus all my efforts on writing about homeschooling. For the past several years, I have written for, and managed, the largest homeschooling blog online, but I rarely wrote about homeschooling on my own blog. With that decision behind me, I knew it was time to retire my site at OMSH.com. Not only did most newcomers have no idea what OMSH stood for**, but I also had this extraordinary domain of MY OWN NAME to use.

So, here we are, you and I embarking on a new path.

I am truly happy you are here, and if you are from a homeschooling family, I am convinced you’ll want to stay. Because that is what I write about – the every day, nitty gritty realities of a homeschooling family. People, there are no false pretenses on this blog. Homeschooling is, by far the most difficult easy decision we ever made as a family.

Oh, and for the record, in case it impacts your stay here, I am not a typical homeschooling mom. In that, I mean I do not crochet, knit, or craft in general. Our schoolroom usually stays clean because I’m in here most of the day and clutter stresses me out. I am also a poor excuse for a cook, though I love good food cooked by someone else – specifically Mexican food, with a side of frozen margarita.

HeatherSanders.com is my last stop on the web. After all, I am, and always will be, Heather Sanders. So please, Subscribe via RSS or if you’d rather, via email (in the sidebar to the right), and stick around. I plan to write regularly.

*I may, or may not, have sold a domain name once or twice in the past decade.

**OMSH = “Oh My Stinkin’ Heck” – it was the name of my previous domain, and even more specifically, the only explicative a mother of three young children should mutter when the day will never end, or when she drops a bag of frozen fajita meat on her toes.
